A long time ago? Oh, dude, I had to stick it out to the sad end. I had to grasp on to every bit of hope even while preparing myself for the worst.

OK, I just sent an email to the Sc-Fi channel (I just used the email address they have for feedback on their website), asking them to consider picking up the show... I don't know if it will help, but I thought it was worth a shot. If you guys hear of any kind of campaign, or if you have any idea of what else people can try, let me know.

(I know, this is the third time I've posted this reply over 3 different TSCC-related LJs... I apologize for the repetition, if this is the third time you've read this!)

Indeed.
Best SF ever broadcast on network TV. Period.

It was just too smart for network TV, too smart for the casual viewers who wanted mayhem every second, and certainly too smart for the suits at Fox. This was the Sopranos of SF, and they let it die.

Congrats, guys, you've outdone NBC's short-sightedness in canceling ST:TOS in 1969. Just as stupid a decision, but after seeing all the revenue lost with ST, you really should have known better.

Roxy, thanks for the great commentary and the wonderful Comicals.

You're too smart for network TV too.

Aw. Thanks :)

Oh man, this sucks. This really truly sucks. I don't want this fandom to disappear. I like it. I like everyone I've met because of it. And maybe that's what saddens me most — thinking all these good times are done or will gradually dwindle.

Reposted from the last thread because this seems where all the cool kids are posting now.

Dollhouse's 13th episode was produced with a skeleton budget. Joss relied heavily on that for his pitch for Season 2 - demonstrating he could produce the show for much less. A deal was worked out in which Fox shoulders a lower percentage of the cost.

My question for you guys (I do not intend this as flame bait at all, it's an honest question) is this: judging from various comments across the board, it's pretty obvious by this point that what really sealed the deal on the show was the middle Sarah arc, which disappointed most of the target demographic at a time when they really needed to be revitalized.

If hypothetically, you had a choice to get 9 more episodes of average level Sarah-centric-ness, at the cost of the middle Sarah Arc getting replaced by something with lots of explosions and Summer Glau, would you do it? Would you answer change depending on how many more episodes could be guarranteed?

Ouch. That's a sensitive topic for today, especially considering how that was the rallying cry from some of the most hateful posts about this show ever made by "fans" (in quotes because the comments I read over and over again went beyond critical into pure meanness). I personally loved those 3 Sarah-heavy episodes: Earthlings, Good Wound, Some Must Watch. In terms of her character, they were powerful and important. Those 3 plus To the Lighhouse and Adam Raised a Cain were my favorites of this season.

But even if most fans didn't like those 3 episodes, the ratings did not take a dive because of them. So at most, I think one could argue that had we come into the back 9 with Lighthouse or Adam Raised a Cain kind of universal appeal, the OMG AWESOME SHOW buzz might've helped pick up a few more viewers. But what it have picked up enough viewers to seal the deal for a 3rd season? Really unlikely. I believe Fox's interference in the creative direction of the show, misguided marketing and a bad time slot are the reason TSCC is now gone. Fox never understood the show and they tried to make it into something it wasn't.

If I had to trade the Sarah drama arc for a Cameron action arc, then no. I loved the action and explosions, but wouldn't have wanted more of it in exchange for less drama. I think that would be selling out the heart of the show. Also, if by average level Sarah-centricness you mean watering down Sarah, then again no. I always felt she was the central character and wouldn't want another season if it meant she wasn't. I mean that. If this show had to be something it wasn't in order to continue, it's probably best that we ended here (although I wish I'd loved the finale).

But I think what you're getting at is that season 2 lacked the perfect balance of character, drama and action that season 1 had. And I totally agree. If I had control of this hypothetical hindsight redo, season 2 would be different. Much of the problems it did have, though, I blame on Fox, not the writers. For the most part, I think they did an amazing job in dealing with the changes that were forced on them. If only Fox had kept their fucking idiotic ideas out of it I think the show would've been a lot strong and we'd have a 3rd season.

I feel pretty numb too. I've never gotten into a fandom like I have with Sarah Connor before. I was one of fans who loved every episode, I was never bored by any story arc, and I actually like the middle Sarah arc a lot. I watched every episode of Dollhouse and I was so disappointed by the finale it's off the DVR for next season. Chuck, I liked at first but I got bored of it this season, too repetitive. No other show engaged me as much as Sarah Connor, not even my beloved Dexter, and that's saying a lot. So I'm gonna miss it a lot, but I'm looking forward to the Comicals. And I will watch anything the stars, producers and writers do for many years to come.

I was an occasional grumbler because there were a few epsiodes I didn't care for. But even those had something in them that I loved. There was always something. So even when I felt TSCC let me down a little, it rally never did. I loved everything about it.

Chuck lost me about midway through this season and I missed a handful of episodes thinking I was done with it. But I got back into in near the end. I wouldn't have been sad if it didn't get renewed, but I'll watch it again next season. I enjoyed it. Dollhouse bored me from the first episode. After 10 minutes of episode two, I gave up. I heard it got better, but at this point, I'm not inclined to backtrack and watch it.

I was telling Lena Geek further up that I am going to finish season 2 of the Comicals. After that I'll just have to see what I'm in the mood to do.

Your Telnovella was certainly a great additional to the fandom. You always could make me laugh :D

At least it died good. I'm betting Fox would have fraked it around and driven it into the ground and we were, in the final analysis, lucky to get what we got.

Plus, the resistance fighters against the occupying army riff really is a bit, kind of, off-colour given the way the world is at the moment. I can't imagine the PTB are comfortable with it.

Yeah. It was a brilliant little show and I think they did an amazing job bringing the characters to life and telling a story that fit beautifully within the Terminator verse. It felt true and that's as much as any of us could've ever hoped for. Well, except for more of it. Lots more. It hurts like hell that it got cut short, but I'd rather have those 31 hours of awesome than 100 hours of mediocre.

This hurts so much, doesn't it? I had plans to catch up on fic last night and then all this cancellation shit started happening. That kind of ruined everything. So I think tonight I'm going to kick back, relax and read some fic. I think I really need that.
