First Kisses

Hands up, who remembers their first kiss?

On the drive home tonight, conversation with the man lead to the recollection of first kisses. I could recall mine instantly and quite vividly. It was with my 3rd grade boyfriend, against a tree in the woods behind my house — freaking romantic, even to my little 8-year-old mind. Well, romantic until the neighborhood kids who'd snuck up on us started screaming and running to tell everyone within earshot. Then it was total embarrassment. But not only do I remember the kiss itself, I know the boy's first and last name, what he looked like, what his bicycle looked like and somewhere in my jewelry box, I still have the gift he gave me before my family moved away that summer.

The man, however, had to think about his first kiss and wasn't even sure of the girl's name or how old he was at the time. "I don't know, but I think it was within proximity to a spin the bottle game with my sister's friends." Seriously? I'm sorry but that is simply not an acceptable first kiss story. And that's all I could get from him. Is my husband unique in this memory lapse or is this how all guys are? Incidentally, do people actually play spin the bottle?

How about your first french kiss? Well it seems my husband's first kiss was also his first french kiss, which I think makes it even stranger that he didn't remember any details. I didn't get that kind of kiss until 9th grade, but it was worth the wait (even more romantic than my 3rd grade smooch). It was in the bleachers after a JV football game. My boyfriend (he was in 10th grade) was the team captain and they'd won. People were starting to clear out and he came off the field, walked up the bleachers, grabbed me and kissed me for what seemed like about 5 minutes. I can still see that kiss from like a sweeping aerial shot from a movie in my mind. Yeah, it was that good. And still the best kiss I've ever had (I didn't mention that part to the man).

So come on. Share. I need first kiss stories. Who remembers? How romantic was it? I want details.

My first kiss? I was 8 and my best friend was a boy down the street, he was so cool. I think I fell in love with him the day I saw him stick a garden hose in his mouth and make the water come out his nose. I was a strange little girl, and very tomboyish. I played hard with the boys, I could outrun most of them, jump just as high and I was fearless. So I didn't do much kissing for awhile after that. In fact, my first french kiss was when I had sex the first time, I was 14. And regretable, forgetable, inevitable it was.

That's so fun. Who wouldn't love a boy who could drink from a hose and make the water come out his nose? Ha. And you were 8 too! I wonder if that's a poplar age for first kisses?

I fell for my 3rd grade boyfriend when he kept grabbing the elastic bracelet on my wrist in class and saying "twist-o-flex" (reference to a Timex commercial at the time, I think). I love little kid memories.

Wow 14? That's young. Doesn't sound like it was the best experience either. Hope I didn't force a bad memory to creep back up on you.

Ah, not so much a bad memory as an embarrassing one. It was a long time ago and I've had a long time to get over so I'll tell you. At the time, the mid 70's lots of girls my age were having sex, and I thought I needed to also. And one of my friends who was a year or so older than me said it was better to sleep with an older guy the first time, they would go slower and be more patient. That was true in my case, and to the guy's credit I don't think he thought of it as statutory rape, but it really was. To make a long story a little shorter he did take his time. But in the middle of it, before we got really into it I realized he was jacking off into my feet! Maybe if I was more experienced I could have handled it but it was my first time and I kinda freaked out. Let me tell you, it was a few years before I was ready to try again!

I can see why! I would have freaked out too.

Oh, I remember my first kiss very vividly. I can picture it, even. It was with my best friend at the time, and we were on her bed, and she was looking at me, and I was looking at her, and she was saying, "Yes? No?" and then there was a lot of lip.

My first French kiss was a month or two later and with someone else.

Hooray for a guy remembering his first kiss! And that sounds sweet, too :)
But, uh, what's with kissing on someone else so soon after? Funny how that works out. I don't even remember how/when/why me and the football player broke up. But I remember that kiss!

Assuming that I haven't lost some childhood memory to the haze of time, my first kiss happened when I was 16 when my high school sweetheart and I were in the early, tentative stages of our relationship. I think the time I'm remembering was the first time. She and I were walking home from school and reached the corner where we parted ways. We kissed on the street corner... for a while actually. Finally broke it up when one of my neighbors drove by and honked at us. (Did I mention I grew up in a small town?)

My first French kiss was a few weeks later at prom, out on the balcony between dances. Same girl, obviously. She had braces with rubber bands, which made things interesting.

More good kisses! Walking home street corner kiss sounds perfect (except for jackass neighbor honking), but it might be rivaled by prom balcony kiss. That's the essence of high school romance right there :)

I never kissed anyone with braces. I imagine that does make things interesting.

She was an old family friend, so the honking was more playing with us than "Hey you two, quit sucking face!" Of course, she also passed word to my mom that I had a girlfriend. Wasn't really how I'd planned on breaking that particular bit of news....

I never kissed anyone with braces. I imagine that does make things interesting.
The braces aren't so much of a problem as the bands. With some braces, they have a high-tension rubberband on each side of the mouth, hooked on four hooks on the braces. After we knocked one off one of its hooks with our tongues, it finally occurred to us that maybe she should take them off when we were doing that. :-)

But the braces themselves? Not really a problem so long as you don't do something silly like stick your tongue on (or mash her lips against) the front of her teeth.

First kiss
Her name was Anita, the daughter of a friend of Dad's. Age eight seems to be the magic number. It was an experimental peck, mimicry of adult behavior. Nothing to write home about, though I remember what town they lived in, and where we were in their yard when it happened. No idea who initiated it.

First French kiss happened when I was 14, and I remember *everything* about her and the circumstances of several occassions, including up against a tree in a lightning storm. VERY nice.

Those were kind of experimental, and addictive and all, but...

Spring of Sophomore year brought first *love*. No sex yet, but the kisses I shared with that girl bent the laws of physics. If you ask me nicely, I can post an flocked bit of prose I wrote to protect against memory loss ;)

Thanks for reminding me. I, ah, I'll be in my bunk.
JK, back to MIL's house.
