WTF TSCC - The Intro

I was working on another WTF TSCC video when that generic narrator from the early season 2 opening titles popped into my head. The thought of that voice saying "Sarah Fucking Connor" amused me, so I made a little clip of it. That caused mission creep. I set aside the video I was working on and decided to have more fun with the intro. Since I'd always hated that opening segment (and I know I wasn't alone in that), I gave it a whole WTF makeover. Here's the result.

I hated that intro…until now; LM*beeping*AO!

What makes it funnier is ironically it makes more sense than the “Opening for Dummies” the original was.
I also especially liked how you found a clip of John with the dumbass look on his face, “oops” indeed.

+10 POINTS for the Scooby Doo reference!

Pure win. :)

Yeah that intro never even made sense. I remember being very relieved when they dropped it after a few episodes. I had a good time slicing and dicing it :)

And I would've gotten away with it too, if it hadn't been for you meddling kids!

Blahahaha! That's too *bleep*ing funny!

So *that* is what you've be up to...
Thanks for the chuckles.

I guess the intro has been one of those things that I've either mined for clues, or suspended disbelief over. I mean, could JF have really been f*ing stupid enough to say that *Skynet* sent Cameron back to save John Connor? WTAF!?

That being said, I can't support the abuse being heaped on John. Only Season 3 will reveal if he truly deserves this kind of abuse.

I REALLY liked your first f*ing montage...

The key to parody is exageration
The season 1 intro was actually the one that said Skynet sent Cameron back to protect John. It would've a huge spoiler given away right at the start, which I doubt they intended. Despite that flaw in the wording, I thought it was a decent intro.

The season 2 intro just sucked all around. It didn't make much sense because it presented John as the main character with Sarah, Cameron and Derek as supporting players. Oh hi, audience, you're watching the Sarah Connor Chronicles. Let me introduce your main character: John Connor. I don't know anyone who liked it.

I didn't intend this little video to be a statement on John Connor, though. I was just having fun. But since we left the series with John ditching the fight against Kaliba/Skynet to jump to an unknown future to try to retrieve a cyborg he'd fallen for, it made sense to me to make him be the one who causes all the destruction. If I'd had more dialog to work with, I might've heaped a hell of a lot more abuse on John! >:D

Re: The key to parody is exageration
My brain is running in several different directions about this. With a 17-year-old in the house, I can assure you that "Yes, the world DOES revolve around them": their safety, their education, their struggle for control. Even when it's about Sarah, raising the Future Leader of Mankind, it's very much about John.

Still, you're right: John arriving amid the ruins of Zeira Corp, amidst a band of resistance fighter, means he *did* screw up, and no-one left behind was able to stop Judgement Day. So Sarah screwed up too.

If there's any possibility of fixing that, he needs to go back and set things right, or send his "pawns" back to do it.

Where was I? Oh, yeah, falling asleep. Sorry.

S3, post-BTR, is surely the world where John will put to the test the concept of whether a human (Alison Young), can ever really be replaced. Or whether he can *prevent* her from being replaced.

Re: So *that* is what you've be up to...
I just had a thought about Cameron, Catherine Weaver and John that somehow grew from my reply to you. It's been so long since I had anything TSCC to discuss that I'm not sure if it's new or something we've discussed before. I'll ponder and make a fresh post later if I think it's new and/or discussion-worthy.

LMFAO! Holy shite girl you're hysterical. That was absolutely great. I literally laughed out loud at the end there.

Ehh ... It was okay.

*Not trolling*

It might have been because I've recently seen a video review that tore the series apart as really terrible, and should've been cancelled in early season one.

But there's a thin line between parody and looking like you're mocking it as terrrible ... and it sort feels like it's on the wrong side of the line.

It might be because you really dislike the ending of the series. IDK I mean I chuckled as some parts ... I mean it's healthy not to take these things seriously, which I don't.

But I just feel like this is kind of a hack at things more than it was parodying it.

But don't feel bad, you've been great at everything else, just missed the mark on this one.

I understand your concern but season 2 was about choices, specifically bad choices, and the escalating trouble that comes from those choices.

Season two started from the effects of John not telling Sarah about Chromartie visiting the school so he could stay; this started a chain reaction of events that fell like dominoes with his initial choice being added to by him and made worse by those around him also making bad choices to please him, help him or fix the problems he created.

John by season 2 has not yet become future John “leader” of the resistance, the person he “needed” to become; the second season ended with one more “bad choice” and went out with a new message, “consequences!”

What Roxy has done is reduced this “truth” to its most simplest form and made fun of it, a parody; if she wanted to tear it a new hole and mock it she could have really taken a knife to it so easily.

So I don’t think you are trolling but I do think you are missing the point, which was the opening credits of season 2 and how ridiculously bad they were, mashed up with the message of season 2 to make a fun video.
That takes some creativity and a great understanding that could only have come from someone who paid attention to the details, IE, a fan.

intrepid... I will never tire of your calm and logical kick ass remarks.
May. 28th, 2012 01:26 am (UTC)
Well I see where your coming from, I just think it's more opinion when it comes to the opening. I don't see them as bad, and alot of people don't either, it really comes down to what one person thinks vs. another. I think it's needed to describe plot and people, since Season one got complicated pretty quick.

As for bad choices ... I mean if everyone made the right choices it would be a pretty short show, no?

I just honestly thought it was a chuckle, not some great parody, but not a bad one, as in throw tomatoes at her, or take a plane to MD to punch her in the face (There are parodies out there that can elicited that response.)

I think it's not a "Fan" thing as it is a point of view that alot of people don't share.

And it's just honest feedback, from someone telling the truth about what they've watched two or three times. I'm not new to the material, I've gone over it for years, through rewatches, and I don't subcribe to the observations in this case.

Very well said, intrepid01.
May. 29th, 2012 04:16 am (UTC)
Uh oh, you found me out — I thought TSCC was a terrible show!

Dude. Please.
May. 29th, 2012 05:49 am (UTC)
I'm kinda scratching my head here at this?

Did I say you hate the show? Did I say you think it was terrible?

Constructive Critism: the action to look objectively at something with a critical eye in order to help the creator in future projects, done so in a friendly, non-threatening way. (For example, look at your video. A parody of a Parody? What a Concept)

I've voiced my opinion because I like most of your things, A few are in the favorites section on my profile. I've also voiced the opinion of several other people I've talked too on skype and Tumblr about it.

If you're going to get defensive over it, because you don't like when someone doesn't get all on board with something? Is it a reason to get this way? Do we have to go through this again?

I'm trying to be nice here, trying to be sociable and delicate, seeing as how half the people I've talked too wanted me to come on here and cuss you out. (No joke)

But I'm not going to ...

So lose the attitude, I'm just trying to help, and feel less uncomfortible about what everyone else is saying about this and you.

I'm pretty sure you don't care, but I'd rather not be stuck in the middle of that again.

"But there's a thin line between parody and looking like you're mocking it as terrrible ... and it sort feels like it's on the wrong side of the line. "

^ That's what I was referring to.
May. 29th, 2012 06:41 am (UTC)
Alot of people feel that way, I can name three off the top of my head.

I know you don't hate the show. -_- (You have a TSCC Christmas Tree) Dude, please.

But it does feel just a bit smarmy in an unflatering way. Like I said it's a thin line between parody and supposed bad feelings.

It's like that Robot Chicken parody of TSCC. It was funny in concept, but it actually hurt the show, giving people the wrong idea about everything TSCC was about.

Thin line, Rox, thin line.

I'm sure you'll bounce back, at least with me.
May. 29th, 2012 08:27 am (UTC)
Are you suggesting that I'm hurting a show that was cancelled three years ago by making a video that you didn't think was funny? That makes absolutely no sense.
May. 29th, 2012 08:53 am (UTC)

Yes, that's exactly what I'm saying. GUH Rox, why are you such a hater?!!

The Robot Chicken Parody was an example of something supposed to be funny, that hit the wrong nail with the viewers.

For better or worse, with the exception of the little prayer circle here, there are some people that really hated it.

For me it was, chuckle worthy, but it also rubbed me the wrong way.

I really can't believe we're still talking about this? I didn't find it all that funny, It was inspired, but it really just carries that chip of someone who didn't like Jameron or some of the subplots.

No fuss, no muss, You think it's good, I think eh, people here want to carve you a statue.

In reality this video only carries over to a subdemo of TSCC fans, who I tend not to agree with in their views. Which turns out to usually be the people that follow this blog. (I follow, because I'm a creature of habbit.)

Maybe that's what you're going for, maybe it's only meant for those people, probably why alot of people didn't care for it that I talked to, I don't know.

You'll do better next time, something that all of TSCC fans can rally behind.

Or not.
May. 29th, 2012 09:08 am (UTC)
I didn't find it all that funny

Now we can stop talking about it. Don't be so round-about next time. It's like trying to find meaning to 3 smudges on a wall. But as Sarah persists, so do I.

You'll do better next time, something that all of TSCC fans can rally behind.
Or not.

It'll be the latter. It always is.
May. 29th, 2012 01:59 pm (UTC)
I can understand someone not liking the video, not everyone has the same sense of humour, but reading into it stuff about not liking subplots or Jameron is totally left field because “that” has nothing to do with the video at all, or at least “I” didn’t think it had anything to do with it.

To me this comes as a little over defensive of some protective viewpoint which you or the others you talked to think this video is challenging.
I don’t see it being anything but truthful to the main salient points even if those points were over exaggerated, but doing so was the point of the parody.

From my point of view of TSCC, there is stuff I loved about the show and things I didn’t but overall I can say I was a fan, but still, I’m not offended if someone makes fun of it unless what they are saying is an outright lie or being malicious, neither of which this video was despite depending whether it was considered funny or not.

So lose the attitude, I'm just trying to help, and feel less uncomfortible about what everyone else is saying about this and you

I'm sorry.. did you come to someone else's livejournal and tell them to lose the attitude? Which, IMO, she didn't even have one.

Perhaps you're the one being defensive. Just a suggestion.
