TSCC Motivators

Yeah I did. I made some Sarah Connor Chronicles motivator posters. It's one of the few fandomy things I've never done, so I felt like I had to ;)

View all ten of them here.

Love them all! "Chips" and "Break Ups" are my favorites.

There's something about that particular type of humor (Motivators posters) that seems to make everything extra funny. Maybe it's just me?

No, it's not just you. I love motivators too and there seem to be so few of them about TSCC, so it seemed like the thing to do.

LOL those are fucking awesome. Iconic scars, disappearing bullet wounds and shoehorns FTW! Plus, the S/D of course, but I commented on that elsewhere ;-)

I loved the Sarah/Derek one (Truth is what modivational posters are all about.)

Can't say I like the shoehorn one all that much.

What I love most about this is that your geek is showing.

these modivational posters could only be gotten by people who know T:SCC backwards and fowards.

great work.

So true. I don't even think causal fans would get them. You really have to know the show.

The shoehorn one is because some of us thought the whole miscarriage thing came out of nowhere. It felt like an add-on to try to make Jesse more sympathetic (I think it actually diluted her character instead). There was also the weird thing between Cameron and Derek a few episodes later (in Lighthouse) that they were setting up with the miscarriage...

"You put John in danger when you lied about Jesse. Sarah nearly lost her child. You've lost a child. You won't make that mistake again."

That felt really forced to me. Derek dies in the next episode anyway, so he couldn't make that same mistake again even if he wanted to :P

I'm actually on the opposite side of the fence on this one.

Jesse sort of came out of no where and messed up Sarah and Derek for everyone in first place and then her hate for Jameron didn't quite make sense other than the fact that "elagedly" they were getting good people killed in the future.

the miscarrige on the Jimmy Carter sort of tied the character to a motive to want to get revenge on John and Cameron.

I don't see her motives as one about I want to better my Commander by getting rid of the "Problem" I think that's what she tells herself to get past it, that is till after the confrantion with John when Derek confronts her in the parking lot.

"You have no idea ... No Idea what "THEY" took from us!!"

note how she points to where she came from meaning John and most likely Cameron.

So anyway I don't think without the miscarrige that her character would have made any sense and I stronly believe she would come off more the villian then before.

I however think that you're right about Josh Friedman adding it in there because he knew with all the shit Riley was taking he wanted for people to feel for Jesse in a way that no one did for Riley. (because he had a crush on Stephaine Jacobson.)

that's all got ...

Once we saw Jesse's story in TITD, I had no doubt John Connor had been relying too much on the metal and making questionable decisions that were getting people killed. Either that or John wasn't even alive anymore and Cameron was running things while pretending he was still in charge.

Either way, it was the fact that the sub captain — the metal, was the only one who was even told the real mission that hit that point home for me. John (if still alive) trusted the metal more than people. I thought that alone vindicated Jesse completely and the miscarriage was an unnecessary add-on to her motivation.

the miscarrige on the Jimmy Carter sort of tied the character to a motive to want to get revenge on John and Cameron.

I never saw it as revenge until the miscarriage and I wished it hadn't turned into that. I liked how Jesse's story started out (aside from the fact that her introduction marked the end of everything that was good about Sarah & Derek). She was a resistance fighter "sent back" (which implies this wasn't a personal mission) to alter John Connor for the benefit of the resistance and I liked that.

Her methods were clearly flawed, but it felt like she was doing something important. She and whoever else she plotted it all with believed that the resistance was doomed if they didn't prevent him from being so close to Cameron. Then the miscarriage got tossed in and overshadowed everything else.

We went from: "I'm here to stop her. I'm here to save him."

To: "You have no idea what they took from us."

It was a big step down, in my opinion.

Even without the miscarriage, though, I didn't like how her story played out. It started out strong, but ended up very weak for me. The miscarriage just made it worse — felt like a lame attempt to tie Jesse into the ever-present baby theme of season 2.

I get it now, shoehorn the miscarriage into Canon.

It made sense to me that Jesse went from being a good soldier, cooperating with Connor's scrubbed metal, to killing the metal Captain who may have saved her life, to maddening frustration at Cameron not allowing Jesse access to Connor to deliver the message from the T-1001. The miscarriage can be seen as the final straw, the thing that makes the situation so personaly intolerable, that she will act to divert John from the metal, no matter what the cost to Riley or herself.

What may be missing in the discussion above, is that Cameron's knowledge of Jesse's miscarriage ties Jesse and T-1001/Weaver and Cameron's formative timelines together, while "our" Derek is from a different cycle. It also lets us know for certain that "our" Cameron came back *after* Jesse scuttled the Jimmy Carter, and John's (Cameron's?) plea for cooperation from the LMT's had been rejected.

Re: Miscarriage
Did it really need a final straw? Today is the Day was two whole episodes devoted to the story of the Jimmy Carter that completely validated Jesse (not her methods, but her reasons). Adding in the miscarriage at the end was just too much too late and it essentially wiped out the motive we'd been seeing in her all season. Maybe my loathing of the entire Jesse-Riley story arc clouds me somewhat, but that miscarriage ruined the only thing I even liked about Jesse.

They could've found another thread to drop to let us know that was our Cameron in Jesse's timeline, or even just left it a mystery. We've still got confusion about that anyway since cameron didn't know who Fisher was.

Re: Miscarriage
Poop. I had several paragraphs of response written, needed to do something else, and then closed the whole session. I really need to work in Word instead of a browser window.

I can sort of see how the miscarriage can be seen as an excuse to write Jesse off as an irrational avenging mother, instead of the principalled resistance fighter that she seemed to me. Her use of Riley as an unwitting pawn ('the end justifies the means') argues against giving her too much stature.

You're right about Cameron... I had assumed she was lying about Fischer, covering up her (possible) mission to shelter John and gain his trust.
