Oink

I think I'm on some kind of unofficial house cleaning strike (although it's getting more official with each passing day). Every day I look at my rugs and think "Yeah, I need to vaccuum those. I'll do that later." Later I think "I'm definitely going to vaccuum tomorrow." This cycle has been going on longer than I care to disclose. There's an empty amazon.com box sitting on the floor in the living room. "Yeah, I'm going to cut that up and stick it in the recycling basket later." I don't even remember what came in that box. Actually there's 2 empty amazon boxes now because another one came today (and yes, I do remember what came in that one). I could go on. But I won't. I'm going to spare you the details of my newfound slovenliness. Maybe I should just revel in it - enjoy my sty while I can - because eventually I know I'll give in and clean.

Maybe tomorrow.

Strike?...I'll join, while I can...at the end of the day (or month) I have to clean anyway or pay to the lady that cleans...or rent another appartment (that is clean)...

Awesome.

Hey, I like the idea of paying someone to come and do it. I don't think she'd put my things away though - I'd still have to do that just so she could clean!

I realized my cleaning strike won't last more than another week at the most anyway because then I get into vacation preparation time. And if there's on thing I can't stand, it's coming home from a trip to a messy house. So I have to clean before I go away.

Why not just sucker the husband into doing it? ;)

Yesterday I commented on what a disaster the house was and his response was "so?" He can not be suckered into cleaning. And he'd do a really bad job of it anyway.

If I was really busy or we were in the middle of a home improvement project I'd at least have an excuse for my slacker ways. But I've had almost no work to do for the past couple weeks. I've had plenty of time for cleaning. I just. Don't. Wanna.

It'll pass. I'll clean soon. I really don't think I can hold out much longer.

Ahhh. Much admiration for the non-suckerable hubby then. ;)

I recently had to do a big cleaning day around my own house. When the laundry stood up, yelled 'I can't take it anymore' and then did the dishes, I knew it was time.

It's all clean and spick and span now.

You'll come around like Cromartie to an FBI party.

So you're saying that if I wait a little longer the laundry might do the dishes for me? Kewl.

You'll come around like Cromartie to an FBI party.
What a great line :D

Yeah, well, the laundry also hogs the remote, bitches about my cooking, and is generally a pain in the ass. So I tossed it into the washing machine to shut it up.

What a great line :D

Keep saying things like that and I might end up thinking I'm witty or something.

We certainly wouldn't want that to happen. Then you might start saying more witty things like this:

Yeah, well, the laundry also hogs the remote, bitches about my cooking, and is generally a pain in the ass. So I tossed it into the washing machine to shut it up.

Meanwhile...
Good news and bad news. The good news is I just picked up another design job. Bad news is that means I'll probably clean the house because now I should be working. I have this problem where I never do what I'm supposed to be doing when I'm supposed to be doing it.

Oooh, what're you designing?

I saw your website (ya know, that domain.com). I was saving an image you posted (don't ask which, I don't remember) and saw the domain and followed it. You make some very nice logo designs.

OTOH, you can now slack off from real work by doing house work. If you can slack off from a third thing, you get a hat trick marked in the program for that night's game.

Slack off the real work for housework, then slack off the housework for (fanfic writing/Joe customization/so on), and then slack off that for God knows whatever. Maybe some outdoor activity.

Thanks. But OMG my "website" is such a disgrace, especially considering one of the things I do for a living is web design. Plumber's sink is always clogged, right? I actually have a lovely design for my site that I've just been too lazy to build. I really should have been doing that while I had no work to do. The problem is I'm not motivated because I get so much work (normally) from word-of-mouth. Work is always slow in the summer though.

I do print work (ads, signs, business cards, letterhead, brochures, etc), packaging design, logo design, web design and web graphics. I also do illustrations (sell a lot of stock illustrations - like clipart) but they tend to be clean and somewhat technical (I'm not much of a "artist" when it comes to illustrations). So pretty much anything and everything when it comes to graphic design. But since I'm freelance, the work can be very erratic. Sometimes I'm so busy I can think straight and other times, I'm playing on message boards all day with nothing to do. Anyway, I just picked up another logo design and I'm also doing a sign for a local company. That's all I've got right now though.

It seems this stage recently. Hope work picks up (just enough) that it's where you want it to be.

And being able to make a living off word of mouth alone? I wish I could do that. Heh.

I hate having to go into an office every day. I want to be able to spend more days sitting at my house in my PJs going 'you people in traffic are all suckers'. Alas, it is not to be and I shuffle forth and grind my day away in a cube.

Surrounded by zombies.

Oh, and plastic toys shaped to look like zombies, not just my coworkers.

That might have been misleading because even when I'm working I play on message boards all day. All it takes is the simple click of a button to switch from a design document to the web browser ;)

All you people who drive in traffic are suckers. Everyone should work from home. It rocks. But the upside to working in an office is you have coworkers to admire and play with your zombies.

BTW, speaking of your work, you totally need to make icons for yourself based off your action figures. I saw your new thread sig on the SCS forums and now I'm convinced that they'd make perfect LJ icon material.

I do the exact same thing constantly. In fact, I'm way overdue to take out the recycling. I'd better do it today or it probably won't get done until Tuesday.

So I'm not the only one. Good :)

I did actually clean my kitchen last night - floor and everything. So I guess the strike is over even though my heart still isn't in it. And those rugs in need of vacuuming... still staring back at me ;)

Oh man, paper recycling we tend to neglect badly. The pile gets huge. They only pick up once every 2 weeks though, so whenever we miss it, it's pretty significant.

I don't vacuum very often. It's the most neglected aspect of my apartment's cleaning. Every once in a while I think that I should vacuum some of the dust collecting at the edges of the room and then promptly forget about it. For a guy who's so fastidious about personal hygiene, I can be a real slob sometimes when it comes to my home.

But I did manage to take the recycling out today, which is good. Pretty much all food and drink related: bottles, cans, cereal boxes, milk cartons, etc. For once most of it can't be blamed on gaming night, since I had just been forgetting to take it out when I had a day off, and didn't feel like dealing with it any day I worked.

What is it about vacuuming? I would rather clean the bathroom than vacuum.

Damn. Paper recycling night. I think I'm gonna need a BIG box.

Well, in my case it's at least partially because the carpet head on my vacuum broke a belt many years back and I've never gotten it fixed. So I'd have to vacuum the carpet with the hose's narrow little end. Also, the carpet's pretty easy to ignore, whereas a dirty bathroom will eventually start to irk me and I'll go on a cleaning spree.

I'm not sure which is worse - me with a perfectly good vacuum being too lazy to use it or you having a broken vacuum for YEARS.

You know my cleaning sprees usually start with the bathroom too. Maybe thats my problem - the bathroom isn't screaming loudly enough at me yet.

BTW - Do you know how hard it is to find a pic of Aeryn Sun with a gun looking badass? I'm going to just have to make a couple screencaps myself because I've been wanting an Aeryn w/gun icon too.

I know, I know. :-P But the maintenance agreement expired long, long ago and I just never cared enough to get it fixed.

Type "aeryn sun" into a Google image search and click the first result? ;-)

I have the poster of that shot (with John with dual pulse pistols in the foreground), although it's not up on the wall right now.

No no no. That won't make for a good icon (too tall - you won't get a good view of the gun). Believe me, I've searched. I'm just going to make some screen caps myself. The only reason I didn't already is because the ep files are on my husband's laptop and I've been too lazy to transfer them.

I will trust your mad icon-making skillz on this matter. Besides, I'm curious which awesome shot from the series you'll pick.
